Snow Day Procedures - 2024

As the weather begins to move to more of a winter feel, I wanted to review the procedure for calling a snow day. If there is a snow event, the various Highway Districts' employees go out and work on the roads. If they believe the roads are unsafe, they call Keith Parks at Harlow's and discuss the road situation with him. Mr. Parks then calls Tana Kellogg and shares with her the opinion of the Highway Districts. If it is determined that the roads are too dangerous for the buses, school is called. Mrs. Kellogg then begins the school's emergency notification through Bright Arrow and the media so they can announce it on their TV or radio station. We make every effort to notify everyone as early as possible.

If we determine to keep the school open during a snow event, you, as a parent, have every right to keep your child home if you believe the roads are too dangerous. If you choose to do this, please call the office and let Shannan Randall know that you are keeping your child home due to the roads. This will result in an excused absence.

If you are wondering what the weather is like at school, we have a weather cam that provides you with real time weather information and pictures at the school. Go to http://www.sd305.org/weather/weather.php and you can see the current weather conditions and a picture of what is happening at Highland.

Tana Kellogg, Superintendent
